How come violence perpetuated by the state IS ALWAYS considered just and heroic, even when they are demonstrably proven wrong,

yet violence used by ANYONE trying to right the wrongs of the state is always “an extremist”?

Isn’t violence used by the state also “extremist”?

This is not my usual HDR travel photo but I decided to put up some of my photos from my trip to North Korea in 2008 on my travel blog. Below is an excerpt from my hdr travel blog www.LostManProject.com. Feel free to tag along as I post my shots and experience while there.

I had the opportunity to travel with the New York Philharmonic in 2008 to Pyongyang, North Korea. It’s hard to sum up in words what I felt and experienced while visiting the northern half of the Korean Peninsula. I have been to China, Vietnam, Russia or places where communism has or still exists to some degree but I never could have imagined what I experienced in North Korea.

I’m not always the best writer, but I think my photos capture what I feel at a certain place. Unfortunately, photography in not looked highly upon in North Korea and having a ‘minder’ assigned to you at all time does not make the task of photographing this country easy at all. I’ll post a few photos from my trip to Pyongyang over the next few days and hopefully you can get a sense of what it’s like there. Please realize most are candid shots taken from a point and shoot camera when my ‘minder’ wasn’t looking.

Above is one of the many mural’s portraying Kim Il Sung (Kim Jong Il’s father) as a warm and compassionate ‘God’. These murals were all over the civic buildings we visited in Pyongyang.
